WATCH: Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma spark joyful dandiya dance with stumps after Champions Trophy 2025 win

New Delhi: Veteran Indian batsmen Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma were seen celebrating with a dandiya dance using the official stumps following their team’s thrilling four-wicket victory in the 2025 Champions Trophy final, a moment that captured the hearts of fans globally. India triumphed over formidable New Zealand by four wickets to secure the title at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday, marking their fourth ICC trophy each for both Kohli and Rohit.

Ravindra Jadeja struck the winning shot in the 49th over. Kohli and Rohit immediately rushed onto the field and grabbed the stumps. While players typically take stumps home as a memento or celebrate briefly, the experienced pair united near the pitch and began tapping the stumps together, resembling the movements of dandiya, a traditional Gujarati dance.

Kohli was India’s second-highest run-scorer in the tournament, while captain Rohit led the way in the final with an impressive 76 off 83 balls, easing the 252-run chase for the rest of the batting lineup.

There was much speculation regarding their future with the team following the Champions Trophy, but neither gave any hint of retiring during the post-match presentation.

“These are the things you want to play (for titles), playing under pressure and putting your hand up. The whole team, everyone has put their hands up sometimes or other (during the course of the tournament), everyone has put up impactful performances, we’ve been part of an amazing team, the amount of work we’ve done in the practice sessions, it feels great (to win),” Kohli said after the match, as quoted by news agency PTI.

“Shubman has been outstanding, Shreyas has played some top knocks, KL has finished games and Hardik has been superb with the bat. We’ve always been in awe with what they can do, the limited number of players in the talent pool, but they just execute plans so well, they keep playing the kind of cricket that keeps them very much in the game,” he added.
