New Delhi: On Tuesday (March 4), Virat Kohli made history by becoming the first player ever to record 24 scores of 50 or more in ICC ODI tournaments. Kohli surpassed Sachin Tendulkar’s previous record of 23 such scores during the first semi-final of the 2025 Champions Trophy between India and Australia in Dubai, as he reached his 74th ODI half-century.
Virat Kohli has featured in eight ICC ODI tournaments (4 ODI World Cups and 4 Champions Trophies) for India, and across 54 matches, he has scored over 50 runs 24 times.

Prior to surpassing Sachin’s all-time record, Kohli overtook Dhawan’s total of 701 runs to become India’s top run-scorer in the Champions Trophy. Kohli required 40 runs in the first semifinal to surpass Dhawan’s record, and he accomplished it by taking a single on the fourth ball of the 24th over bowled by Glenn Maxwell.
