Shubman Gill becomes FIRST in 54 years to achieve THIS massive feat, goes past Virender Sehwag with…

Team India opener Shubman Gill notched up his 7th ODI century off 95 balls in the third ODI against England at the Narednra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Wednesday. On his way to the brilliant ton, Gill broke an incredible record which has not been done in 54 years of ODI cricket.

The Gujarat Titans captain is the first batter to notch up over 2500 ODI runs in just 50 innings in this format. Gill now has 2587 runs in 50 innings in ODI cricket at an average of well over 58.

He broke the record of former South African opener Hashim Amla, who had reached 2500 ODI runs in 51 innings while Pakistan opener Imam-ul-Haq took 52 innings to reach this landmark.

With his seventh ODI century, Gill also became the Indian batter with most centuries before turning 26. He broke the record of former India opener Virender Sehwag, who had six centuries before 26 years of age. Yuvraj Singh with 8 tons, Virat Kohli with 20 and Sachin Tendulkar with 21 are ahead of him.

Gill finally departed for 112 off 102 balls with 3 sixes and 14 fours, bowled by England leg-spinner Adil Rashid. The English leggie also set a new record of his own by dismissing former India captain Virat Kohli for 52.

It was the 11th time that Rashid had dismissed Kohli in ODI cricket equally Australian pacer Josh Hazlewood and Tim Southee with same number of dismissals against the Indian star batter. England duo of James Anderson and Moeen Ali, who have both retired from international cricket, have dismissed Kohli 10 times in ODIs.

Meanwhile, Gill and Kohli put India in a strong position in the third ODI after being sent into bat by England skipper Jos Buttler. Indians lost captain Rohit Sharma early for 1, in the second over of the innings.

The second wicket pair put on 116 runs and then Gill added another 104 runs for the 3rd wicket with Shreyas Iyer, who also notched up 78 off 64 balls.
