Kane Williamson picks Sachin Tendulkar over Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni as his cricketing Idol

New Delhi: While commentating on the IPL 2025, New Zealand’s Kane Williamson lauded Royal Challengers Bangalore’s Virat Kohli for his exceptional batting form. Kohli’s recent performances have been outstanding, accumulating 248 runs in six matches at an average of 62. This strong batting contribution has helped RCB secure four wins from six games, placing them third in the league standings.

While in Mumbai, Kane Williamson took part in JioStar’s “Star Nahi Far” program, an initiative designed to encourage young Indian cricketers. He interacted with children in a question-and-answer session.

“If you could borrow one shot from any cricketer, which one would it be?” a fan asked. The former New Zealand captain answered without hesitation that, “I think it would be Virat Kohli’s flick off his legs,”

Later in the same conversation, Williamson named Sachin Tendulkar as his cricketing hero.

“My cricketing idol was a guy who played at the maidan we were just at. Sachin Tendulkar—he’s the legend. I still see him playing sometimes,” Williamson concluded.

Williamson and Kohli, who recently competed in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, share a strong relationship. India, captained by Rohit Sharma, won both matches against New Zealand in the tournament.

Kane Williamson, overlooked in the IPL 2025 auction, was subsequently drafted by the Karachi Kings for the PSL 2025. However, a quadriceps injury is currently preventing his participation. He is anticipated to join the team before their sixth match.
