ICC Chairman Jay Shah meets IOC head Thomas Bach ahead of Los Angeles 2028

New Delhi: With cricket set to debut at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, ICC Chairman Jay Shah recently met with IOC President Thomas Bach to further strengthen support for the sport’s inclusion.

Jay Shah has recently assumed the role of ICC Chairman, while Thomas Bach is nearing the end of his tenure as IOC President, with elections scheduled later this year.

Their meeting in Lausanne, Switzerland, aims to strengthen the ongoing cooperation between the two organizations, ensuring a lasting partnership through LA28 and beyond.

“Momentum continues to build around cricket’s inclusion as an @olympics sport at the @la28games and beyond, with @jayshah220988 meeting International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach in Lausanne, Switzerland this week,” the ICC said in a story on its Instagram page.

Cricket was added to the LA28 sports program during the 141st IOC Session in Mumbai, alongside flag football, lacrosse, squash, and baseball/softball.

Cricket is already featured in two major multi-sport events: the Commonwealth Games and the Asian Games. It was played in the T20 format for women at the 2022 Commonwealth Games and included for both men and women at the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou.

Inclusion in the Olympic Games will further elevate cricket’s global appeal. While the final format for cricket at the Los Angeles Olympics is yet to be confirmed, it is expected to follow the T20 format.
