New Delhi: In preparation for the Champions Trophy, Hina Munawar has made history as the first female team manager for the Pakistan men’s cricket team. With a strong background in operations and security, Munawar is a seasoned officer from the Frontier Constabulary, having worked in the high-risk Swat region. She has been appointed as the Operations Manager for both the Champions Trophy and Pakistan’s Tri-Nation series, which is set to begin in Karachi on February 19.
Cricket fans, experts, and the media are all buzzing about Hina Munawar’s appointment, despite senior retired bureaucrat Naveed Akram Cheema continuing as the team manager. Munawar, who has transitioned into various security and law enforcement roles, achieved this milestone after successfully completing the Civil Superior Services exam.
A source close to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) told PTI, “Perhaps her appointment is aimed at streamlining operations within the team and improving communication between the players and the board, as she has extensive experience in strategic and leadership roles, where she has successfully helped optimize various operations.”
As Munawar remains employed by the Pakistani Police Service, it is believed that PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi brought her onto the board on deputation. Her appointment is expected to introduce fresh perspectives into the traditionally coaching-focused and male-dominated environment. This move aligns with the PCB’s goal of streamlining team management and fostering a more organized and efficient workplace.
