New Delhi: As the first female cricket player to score more than 1600 runs in a single year, Indian opening batter Smriti Mandhana has made history. She reached this milestone in the first Women’s ODI against the West Indies in Vadodara with an incredible 91 runs off 102 balls.
Mandhana led India to a commanding 314/9 thanks to his outstanding performance. Her collaboration with newcomer Pratika Rawal (40 off 69) created the groundwork for the middle order to develop upon. India surpassed 300 runs thanks to contributions from Jemimah Rodrigues (31 off 19), Harmanpreet Kaur (34 off 23), Harleen Deol (44 off 50), and Richa Ghosh (26 off 12).
Smriti Mandhana’s remarkable feat highlights her exceptional form in 2024. She has now accumulated more than 1600 runs in the year, surpassing Laura Wolvaardt’s total of 1593 runs. This record-breaking achievement solidifies Mandhana’s status as one of the top batters in international cricket.

On December 22, Sunday, the Indian women’s team triumphed over the West Indies women by a dominant 211-run margin in the first ODI at Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara. This victory marks India’s largest ODI win by runs on home soil. The 221-run margin is also their second-biggest win in ODIs overall. India displayed an all-around dominant performance, with Renuka Singh Thakur leading the charge, claiming a brilliant five-wicket haul. The West Indies women’s team endured their heaviest loss in the 50-over format, with both their batting and bowling performances falling short.
