Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi is only 47 years of age but is already enjoying a blissful family life away from cricket. A little while back, he became a grandfather for the first time when Pakistan pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi and Shahid Afridi’s daughter Ansha announced the arrival of their first daughter.
Now the joy has been doubled in the Shahid Afridi household with the arrival of another granddaughter in the family. Shahid Afridi shared the joyous news of his granddaughter’s birth on social media, accompanied by heartwarming pictures of the newborn. He extended his congratulations to his daughter Aqsa and son-in-law Naseer Nasir, expressing gratitude to Allah for this precious blessing. The former cricketer described daughters as the most beautiful reflection of divine mercy.
On social media, Afridi wrote, “Alhamdulillah, Allah has blessed Aqsa and Naseer with a beautiful blessing. Daughters are the most precious reflection of His mercy and the most cherished gift.” The family has named the newborn Ayra.
The announcement was met with an outpouring of love and congratulatory messages from Afridi’s followers and well-wishers, who joined in celebrating this special occasion. The post was ‘liked’ by more than 2 lakh people on Instagram.
One user commented, “Congratulations Lala…love for the little one,” while another added, “MashaAllah Lala, Congratulations for this blessing.”
The third one wrote, “MashAllah Allah lambi zindagi de or buri nazar se bachaye aamen..lala… kabhi dukh na dekhein bacha ameen (MashaAllah may Allah grant a long life and protect from the evil eye. Ameen. May the little one never see sorrow, Ameen).
Aqsa, who married Naseer Nasir in a private nikah ceremony on December 30, 2023, is now embracing motherhood with the arrival of her first child. The intimate ceremony in Karachi was attended by close family and friends.
This happy news comes just months after Afridi’s other daughter, Ansha Afridi, and her husband, Pakistan’s fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi, welcomed a baby boy named Aliyar in August.
Shahid Afridi played his last international match back in 2018. He turned out in 27 Tests, 398 ODIs and 99 T20s for Pakistan. Afridi scored 1,716 runs and picked up 48 wickets in Tests, notched up 8,064 runs and claimed 395 wickets in ODIs and in T20s he had 1,416 runs and 98 wickets. He led Pakistan to the 2009 ICC T20 World Cup title.
Meanwhile, Shaheen Shah Afridi will be seen in action in the second ODI against South Africa at the Newlands in Cape Town on Thursday.
