Team India captain Rohit Sharma has jumped over his teammate Virat Kohli and zoomed to the number three position in the latest ICC ODI rankings announced on Wednesday. Rohit scored a match-winning 76 in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 final and was named the ‘Player of the Final’.
The Indian skipper’s knock helped him rise a couple of places to leave behind South Africa’s Heinrich Klaasen and Kohli and move to third position in the ODI rankings. Rohit’s opening partner Shubman Gill continues to hold the number one position while former Pakistan skipper Babar Azam is in second spot, after his lackluster showing in the Champions Trophy.
Rohit’s 83-ball 76 at the top of the order that set up India’s chase of a target of 252 against New Zealand in the final in Dubai, has helped him advance two spots to third position while Kiwi all-rounder Rachin Ravindra has moved up in all three lists after shining in the semifinal against South Africa and putting up a valiant effort in the final.
While Gill leads the table with 784 points, Babar is at 770 points while Indian skipper is only 14 points behind him with 756 points. Kohli, who was dismissed for just 1 in the Champions Trophy final, drops down one place to 5th with 736 points.
India’s leading run-scorer in the Champions Trophy, Shreyas Iyer, remained at 8th position with 704 points to his name.
Ravindra, who struck a match-winning 108 against South Africa and 37 against India, has gained 14 slots to reach a career-best 14th position. The left-hander won the Player of the Tournament award for finishing with 263 runs and three wickets in the tournament and the latest rankings update also sees him progress 22 places to 98th among bowlers and up eight places to eighth among all-rounders.
South Africa batter Rassie van der Dussen’s knock of 69 in the semifinal has helped him inch up one place to 13th while Glenn Phillips (up six places to 24th), David Miller (up five places to 26th), Kane Williamson (up two places to 27th) and Temba Bavuma (up one place to 32nd) are among the others to progress in the batting rankings.
