There are very few people in the world who have had as tragic a love story as this star Indian cricketer who is celebrating his 39th birthday on Thursday. We are talking about former India opener Shikhar Dhawan, who scored over 10,800 international runs, 6,769 runs in IPL and was dubbed ‘Mr. ICC’ for his consistent performance in big tournaments for India.
However, it’s his personal life and his failed marriage with Aesha Mukerji that still intrigues people. Shikhar fell in love with a girl, who was 10 years older than him, already divorced once and mother of two kids. Dhawan connected with Aesha, who is an amateur kickboxer, on Facebook through mutual friend and former India teammate Harbhajan Singh.
Happy Mother’s day to the most beautiful mothers in my life, my Naani maa, mummy, Aesha and mum.. and to all the wonderful mothers in the world. Love you all

Aesha was born on August 27, 1975 in West Bengal and comes from an Anglo-Indian background with a Bengali dad and a British mom. However, their age gap and Aesha’s first marriage and kids were never an issue for Shikhar, and the couple got married in 2012 after dating for a few years. In 2014, they had a son together and named him Zorawar.
But Shikhar and Aesha slowly started to drift apart, mainly due to his wife wish to keep staying in Australia. According to report, Shikhar wanted Aesha to move to India but the latter wanted to continue living down under.
Allegedly Aesha forced Shikhar to buy properties on her name in Australia as well. This led to many fights between the former couple, ultimately leading to their separation in 2021 after 8 years of marriage. In 2023, the Indian court granted Shikhar a divorce from Aesha on grounds of ‘cruelty’. The court said in a judgement, “the respondent, by conducting herself in the manner, has inflicted such cruelty, agony and trauma on him, that it was impossible for the petitioner to save the marriage.”
While Shikhar now continues to live in India, Aesha and their son Zorawar are residing in Australia. Shikhar barely has any contact with Zorawar now and has revealed that Aesha has blocked him from all social media platforms.
Earlier this year, Dhawan announced his retirement from international cricket after turning out in 34 Tests, 167 ODIs and 68 T20s for Team India. He is turning out in the inaugural season of Nepal Premier League (NPL) currently and scored a blazing 72 with five sixes on his debut in the T20 tournament.
