New Delhi: In the auction for IPL 2025, Delhi Capitals bought KL Rahul for Rs 14 crore. But, they have bought another player, who is a better option than KL to captain the team, because he has also won a trophy under his captaincy. That player is none other than RCB’s ex-captain Faf du Plessis.
Captaincy records are excellent:
South African cricketer Faf du Plessis is a great captaincy option. Delhi Capitals bought him in the auction at a base price of just Rs 2 crore. Faf captained Royal Challengers Bangalore from 2022 to 2024, taking the team to the playoffs twice. Faf has captained 42 matches so far, winning 21 and losing 21 matches.
Not only this, he plays in franchise leagues around the world. In the Caribbean Premier League 2024, Faf captained St Lucia Kings and led his team to the title. This was St Lucia’s first IPL trophy.
Faf du Plessis’ IPL records:
Faf du Plessis, who has been playing in the IPL since 2012, has played 145 matches so far, in which he has scored 4571 runs at a strike rate of 136.37 and an average of 35.99. He has scored 37 half-centuries.
Should KL Rahul be made the captain?
Even after buying KL Rahul for 14 crores from the auction, Delhi Capitals will think 100 times before handing over the captaincy to him. Talking about the statistics, Rahul has captained in 64 matches, in which he has won 31 matches and lost 31 matches. In this way, KL’s performance as a captain has been average.
However, there is no doubt that KL is a good wicketkeeper and batsman, who, if plays without captaincy pressure, can probably contribute more to Delhi’s victory. This is the reason why Delhi can hand over the command to Faf du Plessis in place of KL Rahul.
