New Delhi: Pakistan’s Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif, has expressed his optimism for the national team to secure victory in the upcoming Champions Trophy, starting on February 19th. He also emphasized the importance of defeating arch-rivals India on February 23rd.
During the inauguration of the newly renovated Gaddafi Stadium, Sharif praised Pakistan’s talented team and their recent successes. He expressed confidence in their abilities and urged them to maintain their strong performance throughout the prestigious tournament.
“We have a very strong team, and they have performed well recently. However, the real challenge now is not just winning the Champions Trophy, but also defeating our arch-rivals, India, in the upcoming match in Dubai. The entire nation is behind them,” Sharif stated.
The much-anticipated clash will take place at Dubai International Stadium, as India has chosen not to travel to Pakistan for the tournament. Led by Rohit Sharma, the Indian team will play all their matches at this venue, with hopes of advancing to the semi-finals and final if they qualify. Meanwhile, Pakistan is thrilled to host the remaining matches of the tournament on their home soil. This marks the first time in 29 years that Pakistan will host an ICC tournament. In a statement, Sharif expressed full confidence in the team’s ability to successfully manage the event.
“It’s a momentous occasion for Pakistan as we host a major ICC event after nearly 29 years. I have complete confidence that our team will continue to make the nation proud in the upcoming Champions Trophy,” the Prime Minister remarked. In addition to the Champions Trophy, Pakistan will also host a tri-series featuring New Zealand and South Africa. The Gaddafi Stadium and National Stadium in Karachi will be the venues for this series, providing an opportunity to assess the facilities. Despite facing challenges in completing the stadium work on time, Pakistan successfully overcame these obstacles, ensuring the stadiums were ready for the tri-series.
