New Delhi: South Africa delivered a solid performance, amassing 315 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in their 50 overs against Afghanistan in Match 3 of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 at the National Stadium in Karachi on Friday, February 21.
Wiaan Mulder’s brilliant six in the last over off Fazalhaq Farooqi added 14 runs to the total. Farooqi finished with 12 not out, while Aiden Markram played a standout innings, remaining unbeaten on 52, which featured six fours and a six.
South Africa encountered an early setback when Tony de Zorzi was dismissed for only 11 runs by Mohammad Nabi in the sixth over. Nevertheless, Rickelton and skipper Temba Bavuma formed a strong partnership to steady the ship.
Bavuma made 58 runs, including five boundaries, while Rickelton scored an impressive 103 runs, featuring seven fours and a six. The duo put on 129 runs for the second wicket. Afterward, Rickelton and Rassie van der Dussen added another 44 runs for the third wicket before Van der Dussen was dismissed for 52 runs by Noor Ahmad in the 43rd over. Mohammad Nabi stood out among the Afghan bowlers, taking two wickets for 51 runs in his 10 overs. Farooqi, Azmatullah Omarzai, and Noor also picked up one wicket each during the match.
