India women clinch U-19 World Cup crown by defeating South Africa in the final

New Delhi: The India women’s U19 cricket team successfully defended their global title with a dominant performance. Led by Niki Prasad, the team defeated South Africa by nine wickets in the final of the ICC Women’s U19 T20 World Cup at the Bayuemas Oval in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on Sunday. This marked India’s second consecutive title in the tournament, following their first victory under Shafali Verma’s leadership.

South Africa won the toss and chose to bat first on a sluggish pitch. True to their winning formula throughout the tournament, the Indian team opted to bowl first, restricted the opposition to a low total, and then chased down the target with calm and composure. This winning strategy was once again on display in the final on February 2.

Earlier in the match, South Africa Women Under-19 faltered under the pressure of the final, bowled out for a mere 82, with seven players getting out for single-digit scores, only Jemma Botha and Mieke van Voorst fought back, but India’s relentless bowlers proved too much to handle. Trisha Gongadi led with three wickets, while Parunika Sisodia, Aayushi Shukla, and Vaishnavi Sharma took two each, and Shabnam contributed with one. A commanding performance from the champions, asserting their dominance once more.
