The 2025 Champions Trophy will omit the pre-tournament captains’ photo-op due to varying team arrival schedules, including late arrivals of England and Australia. Consequently, India’s captain, Rohit Sharma, will remain in Dubai with the team. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will host an event in Lahore prior to the tournament’s commencement on February 19.

The political rivalry between AAP and Congress in Delhi has intensified as Arvind Kejriwal and Rahul Gandhi engage in direct attacks. Accusations of corruption and alliances with the BJP are central to their dispute. This conflict could influence the cohesion and future of the opposition’s INDIA bloc.

New Delhi: The uncertainty regarding Rohit Sharma’s trip to Pakistan for the 2025 Champions Trophy has been resolved. The India captain will not be required to travel to Pakistan, as the ICC and PCB have opted to cancel the opening ceremony and captains’ photoshoot for the tournament.
No need for Rohit Sharma to travel to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy:
The joint decision by the ICC and PCB removes the requirement for the Indian captain to travel to Pakistan, effectively addressing a sensitive matter due to India’s current position on bilateral cricket with Pakistan.
“An opening ceremony was never announced either by the ICC or the PCB,” a source was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz. The source further stated that “PCB did not comment but did not deny that there won’t be an opening ceremony or captains’ photo-shoot.”
The official reason behind canceling the opening ceremony and captains’ photoshoot for the Champions Trophy 2025 is attributed to logistical issues. The differing arrival times of the teams, especially England and Australia, who have existing engagements, pose difficulties in arranging a joint gathering of all captains in Pakistan. Organizers also referred to a similar approach taken during the previous T20 World Cup and the 2023 ODI World Cup in India, where such ceremonies were not conducted.
“Because the two sides will arrive either a day before or on the day of the opening match, all captains will not be available in the lead-up to the tournament. As such, no captains’ photo shoot or joint-press conference will be held,” the source further added.
Instead of the usual opening ceremony, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will prioritize highlighting the recently upgraded stadiums throughout Pakistan. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Asif Ali Zardari will each oversee distinct inauguration ceremonies. A more modest, regional event for the Champions Trophy will be held at Lahore Fort on February 16th, with officials from the PCB and ICC in attendance.
The PCB’s decision also aligns with India’s current diplomatic stance of not sending their captain to Pakistan, even for formal occasions. India’s Champions Trophy journey will begin on February 20 with a match against Bangladesh. Following that, they will face their traditional rivals Pakistan on February 23, and then New Zealand on March 2.
Team India’s Champions Trophy 2025 squad:
Rohit Sharma (Captain), Shubman Gill (vice-captain), Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Arshdeep Singh, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rishabh Pant, Ravindra Jadeja
The team management is not worried about Suryakumar’s lean run; in his last six innings, he has scored just 52 runs
A halt in foreign aid may undermine American organizations’ support for forces that guard the two largest camps holding Islamic State members and their families.
