New Delhi: Sri Lanka is currently facing Australia in the first Test of a two-match series at the Galle International Stadium. The Australian team showcased a commanding performance with the bat, scoring 654 runs in their first innings, marking their highest Test score in Asia. Additionally, they troubled Sri Lanka with their bowling in the limited time available at the end of Day 2. Mitchell Star achieved a historic milestone, leading Australia to become the first team in the world to accomplish an extraordinary feat.

Mitchell Starc achieved a significant milestone by dismissing Dimuth Karunaratne during the second innings of the first Test, marking the 700th wicket of his international career across all formats. With this achievement, Australia has become the first nation to have four bowlers who have each taken 700 or more wickets in international cricket.

India has three bowlers who have achieved the milestone of 700 or more wickets. These bowlers are Anil Kumble, who has taken 956 wickets, Ravichandran Ashwin with 765 wickets, and Harbhajan Singh, who has 711 wickets.

Mitchell Starc made a notable contribution with the bat, scoring 19 runs off 19 balls, which included two fours and a six.

Australia announced their innings after accumulating a total of 654 runs for the loss of 7 wickets. Usman Khawaja was the standout performer, scoring 232 runs. This achievement made him the first Australian ever to score a double century in Sri Lanka, and he also became the first player globally to achieve a double century in Sri Lanka after the age of 38.

On the first day of play, Steve Smith made history by becoming the third-fastest player to reach 10,000 Test runs in terms of matches played. He also achieved his 35th Test century. Additionally, Josh Inglis scored 102 runs, marking the second-fastest century by a player in his debut innings.
