England cricket team enjoys ‘perfect’ evening with Ed Sheeran ahead of third T20I against India in Pune

New Delhi: British artist Ed Sheeran met with the England Cricket Team on the first night of his tour in India, which took place in Pune on Thursday, January 30. Sheeran is in India for his ‘Mathematics’ tour, which began in Pune, where he captivated his Indian audience with a heartfelt performance.

The singer of ‘Shape of You’ extended an invitation to the England Cricket Team to attend his show while they were in town for the fourth T20I match in the five-match series against India. Ed Sheeran organized a special backstage meeting with the entire England team and their support staff. During this event, he received a jersey signed by the entire squad from England captain Jos Buttler. In exchange, the pop star presented Buttler with a jersey from the Ipswich Town football club.

England cricket posted highlights of their gathering on their X account, describing it as an ‘perfect’ evening for both players and staff.

“A ‘Perfect’ evening! Thank you to @edsheeran for inviting our squad and backroom staff to the opening night of his India tour in Pune. After catching up backstage, Ed and @josbuttler swapped shirts – with Jos now the proud owner of a signed @IpswichTown top,” wrote England Cricket on their X account.

India is currently ahead in the five-match T20I series with a score of 2-1, as they prepare for the fourth T20I set to take place on Friday, January 31, at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune. The Indian team secured victories in the first two matches played in Kolkata and Chennai, while England staged an impressive comeback by winning the third match in Rajkot.

The England cricket team batted first, scoring 171 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in 20 overs, with Ben Duckett contributing a notable 51 runs off 28 balls. Indian wrist spinner Varun Chakravarthy excelled, achieving his second five-wicket haul with figures of 5 for 24, as England’s batsmen found it difficult to handle his diverse bowling. In response, India struggled in their innings, frequently losing wickets and finishing at 145 runs for 9 wickets in their 20 overs.

England secured a victory by 26 runs, marking their first win of the series. After bouncing back, the team led by Jos Buttler is keen to maintain their momentum in the upcoming fourth T20I.

‘Maybe it wasn’t just one person’s decision’: Wriddhiman Saha defends Rahul Dravid on subject to injustice of team India SNUB

New Delhi: India wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha donned the gloves at the iconic Eden Gardens for the final time on Thursday during Bengal’s Ranji Trophy match against Punjab, marking a memorable farewell. He also took two crucial catches, dismissing the opposition openers.

India wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha has suggested that his exclusion from the team three years ago was likely not a decision made by just one individual. He believes it was perhaps because he wasn’t seen as “capable” enough or didn’t meet the expectations set for him. Once regarded as one of the best in the business, Saha was pushed out of the spotlight after Rishabh Pant emerged as a star in his own right.

Saha kept wickets at the iconic Eden Gardens for the final time on Thursday during Bengal’s Ranji Trophy match against Punjab. Despite being considered one of India’s finest glovemen, Saha’s international career came to an end four years ago when the new team management, under head coach Rahul Dravid and captain Rohit Sharma, opted to prioritize KS Bharat as Rishabh Pant’s backup.

“I wouldn’t call it injustice. That would be selfish. Maybe it wasn’t just one person’s decision. Maybe I wasn’t capable enough or didn’t deliver as expected, so they made their choice,” Saha shared with the media after the day’s play in Kolkata. “If I had performed better, this wouldn’t have happened. I don’t dwell on it, I just take the positives from whatever comes my way,” he added.

On his fitness and continued contribution to the side, Saha expressed that he still believes he can play for India. He recalled his crucial unbeaten 63 against Karnataka in November but also acknowledged his recent scores of 10, 44, 8, and 25 since then, suggesting a mixed run of form.

“If I was in the team, I would have contributed with good catches or solid innings. I’ve tried my best for Bengal. In slip fielding, I haven’t missed a single catch. I’ve enjoyed every bit of it,” Saha said. The former India wicketkeeper, who turned 40 in October last year, made his retirement decision public in a social media post in November.

Saha’s decision to retire had been on his mind for some time, but he was persuaded to extend his career by former India captain Sourav Ganguly and his wife, Romi. Their support played a key role in him continuing to play for Bengal before eventually announcing his retirement.
